Hawaii, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Pacific Coast…. What I wouldn’t give to be in ANY one of those places right now… err, well, maybe right AFTER NSD! LOL!!

{Dear Parker and Penny}

Dear Parker and Penny,

You are both too young to understand it, but history was made today, January 2o, 2009. Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States of America. He is the first African American president of our great country. Our nation is abuzz as we celebrate this monumental event. It is an exciting time indeed. President Obama and his family will reside in the White House, which was once built by slaves. Our country has come a long way in terms of civil and social rights, and I am so thankful to be able to witness such an extraordinary event.

My hope for you, Parker and Penny, is that one day you will read the history books and watch the old news footage and wonder what all of the fuss was about.  That you’ll be living in and accustomed to a world where all people are accepted, and differences in color, culture, gender and personal beliefs aren’t even considerations.  My hope is that it would not even occur to you to “celebrate” or be awed when someone who differs from the majority accomplishes something great… because such accomplishments would be commonplace.  And, when this happens someday, I will enjoy talking with you about the toils and sacrifices of our forefathers.  I will do my best to help you understand that your freedom was not always “free.”

My prayer for you, my children, is that you will grow up to be ambassadors of peace and recognize how fortunate you are to be free…. To be Americans.

XoXo, Mommy

{HAPPY FEET!!}

The weather has been crazy nice here…. I can’t get over it…. We took the kids to the San Francisco Zoo today…. It was heaven… Absolutely PERFECT weather…. It felt like April or May instead of the middle of January!!  One of the highlights was getting to see the penguin feeding! So cool!!!  Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!!!
